Bento Bio is a small company on a mission to make biotechnology available to people all over the world. We do this by creating kick-ass hardware, wetware, and knowledge resources.
Many of our team are remote. Our hardware and wetware production is based in London. Our whole team meets in-person twice a year. We work hard on maintaining a friendly and inclusive culture. If you share our passion for biotech, STEM, and citizen science and want to play a key part in shaping the future of bio, join us!
Our first product was Bento Lab, an all-in-one PCR workstation designed to make biotech accessible everywhere. It started as a concept developed at University College London for iGEM, the international genetically engineered machine competition. In September 2015, using funding awarded as prizes from the London E-Challenge, UCL’s Bright Idea Awards, the IBLF Awards and the Royal Academy of Engineering’s ERA Foundation Entrepreneurs Award, twenty Bento Lab test units were built and sent to beta-testers all around the world. In 2016 the team raised over £150,000 on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter to invest in a manufacturing set up and educational resources.
